SaaS / IaaS & storage
Servers, services and project storage
A high-performance server environment for development and testing, plus short and mid-term project storage — a complement to your own institution's infrastructure.
SaaS / IaaS (University of Salzburg)
A high-performance server environment (around 18 Supermicro systems) offering:
- Database-as-a-Service
- Test-and-development Infrastructure-as-a-Service
- Project-specific virtual machines (Proxmox, provisioned via Ansible)
- CI / git-runners for research-software development
Long-term hosting ties up sysadmin maintenance, so we have to be conservative about it: treat this as a development-first environment — for development, testing and prototyping — and only selectively for production. Many Austrian institutions can also offer VMs and dev environments, so check with your home institution as well.

Project storage — not a long-term repository
We are not a long-term research-data repository. In Krems, large-scale resources (Ceph) are available for short and mid-term project storage.
For long-term curation we defer to established services such as ARCHE, GAMS and Phaidra and to working groups like Forschungsdaten Österreich — and, where useful, help integrate our infrastructure with your repository (for example running LLM API functionality alongside it).
See it in use
The University of Salzburg documents its DHInfra.at test cases on the DH Salzburg blog:
- A GitLab + CI/CD repository for the Literaturarchiv Salzburg and Stefan Zweig digitisation holdings.
- Proxmox VMs powering DH use cases such as “Managing Maximilian” and “Pangloss”.
