About 70 people joined the online public launch of DHinfra.at on 12 October 2026. The slides are available for download, and the questions from the session point to what we add to the documentation next.

On 12 October we presented DHinfra.at to the public, online. About 70 people took part: colleagues from our partner institutions, representatives of other galleries, libraries, archives and museums, humanities scholars interested in digital methods, and people from high-performance computing.

We showed what DHinfra.at built, how to get onto the GPU cluster through the browser, the command line and the API, and one use case from start to finish: a medieval charter read with text recognition, a model trained on the cluster, and a language model that brings the error rate down from 18.7 % to 4.2 %.

Slides

The slides are available as a PDF download (in German, 130 slides, 14 MB). They are licensed under CC BY-SA unless marked otherwise.

Questions from the session

The questions covered:

  • how to get access, how a project gets approved, and how to get approved faster
  • graphical user interfaces on top of the cluster
  • the maximum number of concurrent users and requests
  • which projects and ideas count as valid use cases
  • caching of models, how long a model stays cached, and waiting times

We answered them in the session, and the documentation behind the login covers part of them. We will add more information soon, in particular on which uses of the API are legitimate under the service policy, and on onboarding users who have no eduID account.

Thank you

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you to everyone who joined and asked questions. We look forward to more users and projects on the cluster.

How to start

Log in at dhinfra.at/login with the eduID account of your home institution, create a test project and look around. When the work gets serious, apply for a standard project. Questions go to dhinfra@uni-graz.at.

DHinfra.at is open to all: public launch on 12 October

Since 1 October 2026 the DHinfra cluster accepts project applications from all research and teaching in the humanities, cultural studies and the arts in Austria. Large open-weight language models run on the cluster itself, so data stays inside the academic network. Join the online public launch event on 12 October.
